The era of the TV might be coming to an end as more and more studies show that the next generation prefers laptops. Many experts in the entertainment industry saw the decline of the modern-day TV after the “cut-the-cord movement” started. As a result, tens of thousands of people cut their cable services in favor of streaming services, such as Netflix and Hulu.

Now, this movement has evolved into something else completely. People aren’t just doing away with cable and satellite services. They’re doing away with TVs altogether and replacing them with much more versatile laptops.

High School Graduates Are Heading to College and Leaving Their TVs Behind

Owning a TV has been a big part of people’s lives for years. However, a survey of 36 freshmen leaving high school and heading to college revealed that they won’t be taking their TVs. Also, 39% of them said that they don’t expect or need TVs in their college rooms.

It seems that women are the ones leading the charge. In fact, 56% of the women who took the survey admitting that they won’t have TVs in their rooms at all. However, the most impressive stat is that 77% of the freshmen admitted that they won’t give up watching videos. Instead of watching them on TV, they expect to watch videos on their desktop or laptop computers.

Mobile phones are also paving the way for a future without TVs. Twenty percent of the students in the survey said that they use their mobile phones for watching shows. With that said, only 3% of the students admitted that they still watch shows on a normal TV.

Why Are So Many Young Adults Switching to Laptops?

TVs still have a place in homes across the country for now, but why are so many people switching to laptops? The reason is all of the benefits that come with choosing a laptop over a traditional TV.

First, laptops are portable, so people can take them wherever they go. Gone are the days of needing a TV in every room of the house. People can simply take their laptops with them and watch shows on the go thanks to streaming services.

Also, laptops are all-inclusive. People can do a lot more on them than simply watch TV. They can work, play games and surf the web with one device. Having big and bulky electronics is quickly coming to an end. People want small, compact and convenient technology solutions. With manufacturers making laptops slimmer, faster and longer-lasting without charging, they fit the bill perfectly.
