Laptop Programs:

Personal Student Computers

UNC Pembroke does not require that students have a personal computer on campus.  However, there may be a recommendation for specific majors.
There are two classes of student computers on campus.

Laptops associated with student programs
Honors College and other groups on campus may have a number of laptops associated with them purchased with University money. They are issued to students in those programs.  These laptops are University property and will be returned to the University upon completion of the program.  For service, these should be brought directly to the DoIT Help Desk in DF Lowry, room 110.

Student owned computers
  • This is any computer that is not owned by the University.  There is no computer repair shop on campus and no support for problems such as malware, a computer that is not functioning properly or software installation.  Support is provided for troubleshooting network and Internet connectivity issues.

Degrees and Programs Offered:

Honors Scholar Laptop Initiative

Members of the Honors College have the opportunity to participate in the Honors College Laptop Initiative. This program exists to support the academic development of honors students as they progress through their honors curriculum and is conducted with the support and cooperation of the DoIT Help Desk in the D.F. Lowry building. The process for acquiring and returning honors laptops is shared with new and returning honors students every summer, prior to the beginning of the academic year. Summer laptop contracts are possible with the prior consent of the Honors College and DoIT. Access to laptops may be limited depending on demand. If you have any questions about The Honors Laptop Initiative please do not hesitate to contact the Honors College ([email protected]) or the Helpdesk ([email protected]).
