Fall/Spring Laptop Information
Eligibility Criteria to Opt-In to the Academic Computing Initiative Laptop Program- Enrolled as a Bachelor's Student
- Registered for a minimum of 12 credits each semester, as a Full-Time student
- Financial account is satisfied, either paid in full or in a payment plan with Student Financial Services
- Be within the first 6 weeks of your first semester attending SJU
- On-campus certified Support Center assistance
- Full warranty support, including accidental damage protection
- Laptop loaner program, if your laptop is checked in for repair
- Pre-installed software in full compliance with St. John’s requirements
- Upon graduation from St. John’s University with a Bachelor’s Degree, ownership is transferred to the student

- College of Professional Studies Computer Science students can select either a Windows or Apple machine.
- College of Professional Studies Mass Communications students are advised to select Apple machine
- The Peter J. Tobin College of Business students are advised to select a Windows machine
- St. John’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Bachelor of Fine Arts students are advised to select the Apple MacBook Pro

- “Admissions”
- “Choose Your Laptop”
- Login to MySJU.stjohns.edu
- Select “Request Service / Training Appointment”
- Select Laptop Support Center
- Select “New Student, Laptop Pickup.”
- Choose a date and time from the available list.
- Complete the contact page, including keeping your SJU email address as part of the contact.
Bring Your Own Laptop
We want you to feel at home on campus, in class, and on-line, so do not hesitate to bring your own laptop if you believe that will help bring you academic success. Just note that the support provided through St. John’s University’s Academic Computing Initiative will be unavailable to students that bring their own laptop. Students who bring personal laptops may be required to purchase and install software required for classes. If you are unsure of your software needs, please consult with your academic department.- College of Professional Studies Computer Science students are advised to bring a laptop with at least 8GB of RAM

Minimum Hardware Specifications
If you will be an incoming freshman or transfer student and plan to bring your own laptop, your machine's hardware specifications should at least be comparable to those of the models listed above.The recommended minimum requirements are:- i5 processor or higher

- 128Gb Hard Drive (Internal Storage)
Minimum Software Specifications
Apple Laptop- MacOS Mojave 10.14 or higher
- Microsoft Office Professional 2016 for Mac (Available as a free download via your SJU Microsoft 365 account)
- Anti-Virus Program, such as McAfee or Norton for Apple
- Microsoft Windows 10 or higher
- Microsoft Office Professional 2016 for Windows (Available as a free download via your SJU Microsoft 365 account)

Attention Apple Users
Personal Apple users should also be aware that they may be required to run the Windows operating system in order to successfully launch and run various software required for their classes. In such cases, Apple users can partition their laptop for a Windows environment either through Boot Camp or install a virtual machine environment by purchasing Parallels or VMware Fusion. Students with MacBook laptops who need to run Windows will also need a valid copy of the Windows 10 Operating System and any other programs that their classes may require. This software cannot be installed by the University.Non-Participants Will Have Access To:
- Microsoft Office365 email account with 5 free downloads of Microsoft Office 365 suite
- Wireless internet access while on campus
- Access to wireless printing on campus
- WebEX (web & video conferencing)
