In addition to its 23 undergraduate majors, Bowie State offers 20 master's degree programs, 16 specialty certificates and two doctoral programs with specific focus on science, technology, business, education and related disciplines. A supportive academic environment empowers students to think critically, make new discoveries, value differences and emerge as leaders in a highly technical, rapidly changing global society.Bowie State’s Center for Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Nursing includes research and instructional laboratories, flexible classrooms, a nursing simulation wing and a fully enclosed greenhouse. Bowie State is also home to an all-Steinway Fine and Performing Arts Center, equipped with the latest technologies for digital media arts and music production.
Bowie State University is providing free laptops to incoming freshmen, new transfer students and returning sophomores in need, as well as internet hotspots for all students who need it, as part of back-to-school plans to help close the digital divide and promote academic success. The move by Maryland’s oldest historically black college or university (HBCU) to provide students with free laptops and internet service comes as many more students will need to prepare for distance learning, as part of Bowie State’s Fall 2020 Return-to-Campus Plan during the COVID-19 pandemic. The university is using its share of federal CARES Act funding relief for colleges and universities to cover the costs of meeting students’ technology needs. Once students successfully enroll for fall 2020 and indicate a technology need, Bowie State will initiate the process to issue a laptop and provide internet hotspot service. Students receiving laptops can keep them until they graduate, as long as they remain enrolled at the university. The internet hotspots will be loaned to the students and free for them to use during the loan period. Bowie State wants to be sure that every student has the appropriate technology to support their academic success. The Bulldog Laptop Loaner Program allows BSU students who lack access to a home computer the opportunity to apply for a loaner laptop and/or Wi-Fi.
Loaner laptops are available to undergraduate and graduate students taking at least 6 credit hours this semester. Each laptop will have: -Windows operating system
-Built in microphone Hotspots and individual webcams are also available. To sign up for the Bulldog Laptop Loaner Program, email [email protected]
