About the School:
Alabama State University is a public black university based in Montgomery. It is a higher learning institute and enrolls over 5,000 students annually. ASU offers degree programs in nearly 50 fields of study, with the popular categories being education, criminal justice, biology, and computer science.
The university offers its bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees on a semester-based academic calendar. Classes are kept relatively small with a student/faculty ratio of 18:1. Students can also apply for financial aid programs but need to reapply every year to maintain the eligibility status. The package allotted to students will be evaluated annually based on income changes.
ASU is continually working on expanding its online degree programs. Currently, the university offers 12 programs entirely online. The courses are offered through the Blackboard Learn platform. Alabama State University offers its students to loan an Apple MacBook Pro for use throughout the semester. ASU’s College of Business and Administration has partnered with Apple and has set up a brand-new Mac Lab that includes 20+ Mac Computers for daily use. They also have numerous MacBook Pro laptops for use.
ASU has updated its course curriculum with a new class for teaching Swift, where students will be able to sit in the App Development with Swift Certification Exam. To receive a laptop, students have to talk to the Computer Information Systems department.
